INTRODUCING OUR NEW MOTHERSHIP
Our motor launch, the Aquitania pictured above entering Victoria Harbour, is a unique 45 foot cedar strip vessel. complete with inboard motor, a surrey- fringed cover and 8 foot ocean-going prow.
Requiring less than 15 cm (6 inches) to float, she is ideally suited to cruise the shallow coastlline and reefs surrounding the Chain and Discovery Islands - home to a wide diversity of wildlife.
She carries up to 12 passengers. Go to Mothership for a full description and history of our vessel and how she was built by the tour Operator to serve both in the capacity of a touring vessel (as well as a kayak carrier).
FAVOURITE TOURS ARE CLOSE TO HOME
Our Giant Canoe is moored in Oak Bay, next to Oak Bay Marina. This location provides conveniant access to the Discovery and Chatham islands near bye. Despite being so close to Victoria, these islands are among the most wild, beautiful and unspoiled of all the Canadian Gulf Islands. Fortunately for us they are Victoria's best kept secret!

We pride ourselves as being wilderness escape artists, who love what we do - which is to explore by canoe and by kayak the many unspoiled and tranquil places which still constitute much of our B.C West Coast heritage. We have been in the guiding business for over 14 years.. The Giant Canoe that we built is an extension of this dream - to share this wilderness and wildlife experience with those who would prefer a motorized vessel to one with a paddle or sail.
Blackfish Wilderness Expeditions is a long-standing member of Tourism Victoria. We are also proud members of Earth Foot, a society dedicated to low-impact eco-tours- tour operations which are small in scale, owner-operated, locally produced, and culturally sensitive to the needs of locals. We are also in the business of making friends, rather than
customers.
Our philosophy is to teach new skills, and to impart knowledge which will lead to a greater sense of awareness and respect for conserving our unique marine environment. We seek to expand the wilderness horizons and consciences of fellow adventurers, wherever these trails may lead. Our underlying aim is to have fun, to make new friends and to develop the camaraderie and team work that only wild places and the challenge ofsmall boats and broad ocean horizons can elicit.
Al Lub
kowski is the Tour Operator and back-up Skipper aboard the Aquitania. Al's background is in regional and resource planning. But his life long interest has been in exploring wilderness areas by canoe, by kayakand by sail. His stint as a tour operator in Belize, is one example of this "wander lust". His building the 45 foot cedar strip canoe which we use for these tours shows Al's creativeness and love of mixing boats with adventure.
Marc Lecacheur is Blackfish's principal Skipper . Marc is truly an adventurous spirit, having t
ravelled extensively by bike, by foot and by kayak in third world countries (he is particularly proud of a rugged 600 km paddle of the African coast which he did on his own). In recent years he aquired worked as a guide in South African game parks. Marc's passion is writing and to this end he has contributed a number of articles to adventure magazines describing his travels to wild and exotic places, including his last summer's trek along the Juan de Fuca Rainforest Trail. Blackfish is fortunate to to have a Skipper/guide with such talent, enthusiasm and sense of humour to share with passengers on our Aquitania.
